Ted milk float in charity round

The milk float from the 2007 festival Careful now... Father Ted's milk float is off Craggy Island and may be making a delivery near you.

The iconic vehicle, which featured in an episode of the hit comedy, is being pushed around Ireland as part of a 40-day 800-mile charity drive.

It left Eyre Square in Galway over the weekend as part of the annual Father Ted festival taking place next month.

The big push is to raise money for Down's Syndrome charities on both sides of the border.

Bookmaker Paddy Power is sponsoring the Ted 40 event, and is offering odds on the possibility Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness will get involved when the milk float comes north of the border.

They are also taking bets on the milk float becoming Ireland's Eurovision entry next year and 250-1 on it running for president.

The episode featuring the float, Speed 3, is a spoof on the Speed movies.

Pat Mustard, an amorous milkman loses his job because of Ted and Fr Dougal Maguire takes on the milk round, but Mustard has a terrible revenge in store.

Last year Inis Mor, one of the Aran Islands, hosted the first Father Ted festival.

Hundreds of pseudo-priests, nuns and lovely girls travelled to the island to pay homage to Ted and the rest of the cast.

Dermot Morgan, who played Father Ted, died nearly 10 years ago, but his comedy character lives on through repeat showings and huge DVD sales.

Ted Fest II will run for a week in total: from 25 February to 27 in Kilfenora, County Clare, and on Inis Mor from 29 February to 2 March - tickets sold out within half an hour of going on sale.

Regional heats are being held for the Lovely Girls Competition in Galway, Belfast, Dublin and Cork.
