Alex Best announces wedding plan

Alex Best The ex-wife of the late Northern Ireland soccer legend George Best has said that she is to marry again.

Alex Best, 34, said she will marry businessman Howard Kruger, after he proposed on New Year's Day, but that a date has not yet been set.

She told the Belfast Telegraph newspaper Best would "always be the love of her life", but said she felt the time was now right to move on.

They divorced in 2004, but remained in touch until his death in November 2005.

Alex, who was 26 years younger than the former Manchester United and Northern Ireland star, was married to him for nine years.

Best, who was voted European Footballer of the Year during his brief career, turned his back on a top level career after just nine years at the age of 26 and fought a well chronicled battle with alcolhol.

Alex met Mr Kruger at a New Year's Day party in 2004.

The following year the 47-year-old businessman was jailed for three years after being found guilty of indecent assault on a girl.

Alex stood by him and the couple started seeing each other again when his conviction was overturned last March.

She said Mr Kruger "has been a great support" over the last few years.
