Two members of Northern Ireland's arms decommissioning body have been appointed honorary CBEs.
Finland's Brigadier General Tauno Nieminen and US civil servant Andrew Sens were honoured for services to the political process.
They worked alongside Canadian General John de Chastelain.
Aaro Suonio, chef de cabinet of the Independent International Commission on Decommissioning, was also awarded an honorary MBE.
The honours were among dozens for people from, or associated with, Northern Ireland.
Secretary of State Peter Hain said it was a fitting recognition of their contribution to securing a lasting peace.
"Through their integrity, diligence and commitment to peace, they have helped to deliver what many thought would never be delivered - the decommissioning of IRA weapons," he said.
In the New Year Honours, Patrick Toal, permanent secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, becomes a Companion of the Order of the Bath.
Those who were appointed CBEs include Margaret Cooper from Enniskillen for services to disabled people and Primrose Wilson of the Heritage Lottery Fund for services to conservation and heritage.
Community relations
Laganside Corporation chief executive Kyle Alexander has been made an OBE for services to regeneration, while Donal Flanagan, chief executive of the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools, was made an OBE for services to education.
That honour was also made to the principal of the Dominican College convent school in Belfast, Sister Rosaire Boden.
Ballysillan Presbyterian Minister, the Reverend Norman Hamilton, was made an OBE for services to community relations, while interim victims commissioner Bertha McDougall and Lady Stella Empey - wife of UUP leader Sir Reg - were honoured with OBEs for services to the community.
Belfast comedian John Linehan - alias May McFetteridge - was appointed MBE for charitable services, while Mervyn Whyte - clerk of the course at the North West 200 - was given the honour for services to motorcycle racing.
Seven police officers and staff are included in the New Year Honours.
The Queen's Police Medal (QPM) has gone to Inspector Derrick Louden, Castlereagh, and recently retired Detective Sergeant Steven Callaghan.
Those PSNI officers made MBEs were Inspector Ronnie Neill, sector commander for Kilkeel and Warrenpoint, Inspector John MacAuley, who served in west Belfast, Sergeant Florence Ferry, a community safety officer in Cookstown, Reserve Constable John Knox from Bushmills and Suzanne Robson, senior personal secretary to the chief constable.
