Two cousins have been charged with burgling the home of an 85-year-old woman in north Belfast on Friday.
Andrew Kevin Cornes, 22, from Enfield Drive, and Wayne Antonio Dowie, 24, from Leopold Street, were charged with aggravated burglary and having weapons.
A detective said he was objecting to bail because he believed they would re-offend and target vulnerable pensioners in the run-up to Christmas.
The pair, who denied the charges, were remanded in custody.
The charges allege that Mr Dowie had a knife with him, while Mr Cornes had a screwdriver.
Cheque books and jewellery were stolen from the pensioner's house on Twaddell Avenue.
It was also alleged at Belfast Magistrates Court that the pair broke into Clarendon Sports Centre and tried to steal sports equipment.
They are to appear in court again on Thursday via videolink.
