City festival hailed as success

There has been some criticism of the street party because of the level of underage drinking in the past.

Dr Anne Doherty, who has called for the festival to be scrapped because of the issue, said the situation has improved but there are still problems.

"There was a wonderful atmosphere and the fireworks display was incredible," the local GP said.

"Unfortunately there hasn't been a shift in the culture of underage drinking and inappropriate use of alcohol, but I do feel this city is trying its best to come to terms with problems that are all over the UK and Ireland."

Meanwhile, a number of people had to be moved from their homes in Omagh on Tuesday night because of a bomb alert.

A device made up of fireworks in a tube was discovered at Orangefield Park in Campsie at about 2045 GMT.

Across Northern Ireland, the Fire and Rescue Service received almost 500 calls in what it describes as one of its busiest Halloween nights.

Between 1600 GMT and 2300 GMT there were a total of 464 emergency calls. Most of the incidents were minor.
