Ex-soldier held over baby murder

Police A former soldier has been arrested in connection with the murder of a baby in County Down 40 years ago.

Linda Cochrane, who was nine months old, was killed at Ballykinlar Army Camp in September 1966.

The 60-year-old was arrested in Staffordshire by PSNI officers, assisted by the local constabulary.

Police said the inquiry was not being carried out by the Historical Enquiries Team but was a "proactive investigation carried out by crime operations".
