Sewage sludge is being dumped at 13 different locations in Northern Ireland, it has emerged.
Reports of the dumping were made to the Your Place and Mine programme on BBC Radio Ulster on Saturday.
Some of the sewage is being dumped in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is looked after by the Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust.
Trust director Peter Harper said news of the dumping in such an important natural habitat was "very worrying".
"It is an absolutely beautiful area, it is a forest area," he said.
"It is quite an extensive area where this is happening, so it is very, very worrying."
The Department of the Environment said that under the current Waste Management Licensing Regulations there are 13 registered exemptions in Northern Ireland which allow sewage to be spread.
