Firefighters are injured in blaze

The incident took place at Bloomfield Road South in Bangor Five firefighters have been injured while attending a fire in Bangor, County Down.

Two of the firefighters were seriously injured in the early morning blaze. The Fire Service was called to the incident at the Bloomfield Retail Park.

It is believed the fire at an Xtravision store may have been started deliberately and it is currently being investigated by the police.

The Bloomfield Road South in Bangor, near to Ballyree Drive, has reopened.

Station Commander Alan Hamill said the firefighters were injured when gases which had built up in the building ignited.

"The first crew, when they arrived, discovered there was a commercial bin on fire, placed at one of the doors to the premises," he said.

"The first crew removed the bin from the front of the premises and were preparing to tackle the fire whenever they were engulfed in a fireball.

"This resulted in all five of the firefighters being injured."

Meanwhile, police in Enniskillen are investigating the cause of a fire in the Market Yard area of Lisnaskea.

It is understood several youths may have been in the building on Friday night, said a PSNI spokesman.

The fire may have started inadvertently and smouldered for several hours before it was dealt with by police and the Fire Service shortly before 1100 BST on Saturday, said the spokesman.
