Paddy the Pigeon, which hailed from Carnlough was decorated for being the first bird to fly back with news of the D-day landings in Normandy.

The citation recorded that the County Antrim bird returned with the news in just under five hours.

The pigeon fancier bought the medal at an auction in Dublin on Sunday.
