Man dies in motorway crash

The man who died is believed to be in his 20s.

The collision happened on the northbound carriageway near Sandyknowes heading out of Belfast, shortly before 0700 GMT on Monday.

The northbound section between Fortwilliam and Sandyknowes was closed for a time after the accident.

John Wright from the ambulance service said the accident involved a collision between a van and car.

Fatality

Mr Wright said: "One of the vehicles crossed the central reservation and hit the other vehicle head on.

"The ambulance service had three vehicles on the scene shortly after 7.00am.

"They worked alongside the fire brigade and the RUC.

"We took two patients to the Mater, three to the Royal and one to the Antrim Area Hospital and there was a fatality at the scene."
