The Magazine is compiling a people's history of modern Britain - featuring your written memories, photos and home movies. This week we asked for your recollections of the 1980s.
We've already received hundreds of written memories and family photos, which will be published on Friday. But here's a taster of some of your home videos from the time, submitted through the BBC's modern history YouTube group.
HURRICANE, SUFFOLK, 1987
"Like everyone that night I was woken by the noise and as it got light I decided to go around the village, which is Thurlow, near Haverhill in Suffolk, and record its effect on the village," says Richard Crooks, who is now 40 and lives near Norwich.
"I was one of the early few with a video camera in those days, as I used it mainly for creative purposes. Thurlow was without power for five days, and that week I used to visit a friend so I could live in the 20th Century before returning to Thurlow, which had been flung into the 19th for a while. Well, that's how it felt at the time."
ON THE FARM, YORKSHIRE, 1980
Nick Fletcher, 15 at the time, and his brother filmed this on a Super 8 cine camera, on the family farm near Hovingham, North Yorkshire.
It also features his father, uncle and neighbouring farmers helping out with the harvest.
"I liked the farm and in some ways still miss it," he says. "I now live in Malton. Unfortunately a lot of friends left the area but I still see an odd one from Hovingham. I liked the summer and the harvest - I think those days were the best years of my life."
