Glove worker's long-service award

A man who has worked at the Dents accessories factory in Warminster, Wiltshire, for 60 years has been presented with a long-service award.

John Cundick, 76, received the award from the Master of the Worshipful Glovers, Roy Jennings.

Mr Cundick joined the company as a post boy then had to interrupt his employment for national service before rejoining in 1953.

He now works as a quality controller and is in charge of the Dents' museum.

His earliest memories at the famous accessory-maker include, "open fires burning coke, heavy boxes to lift, just two weeks' holiday a year and even a wide-open well just outside the door which employees had to step over to get to work".

"Holidays were just a day's outing to Weymouth," he said.

"We used to all pile into the charabanc - it had hard wooden seats but we loved it. It was a great day out."
