Company fined £8,000 for accident

A service station in Wiltshire has been fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £3,700, for a breach in health and safety.

Leigh Delamere Service Station, run by Moto Hospitality Limited, was prosecuted by the North Wiltshire District Council.

The incident occurred in November 2007, when an employee slipped on a wet corridor floor caused by a leak in the roof.

District Council prosecutor Paul Taylor said management knew about the leak.

Mr Taylor said requests to repair the roof had been made to the head office of the company, in April 2006, and had not been followed up.

The company had also failed to follow risk assessment procedures, by not using non-slip mats on the affected floor.

Moto Hospitality Limited spokesperson Dale Collins told the court, admininistration procedures at the time were not sufficient but had been changed.

The company has repaired the lifted floor tiles and the leaking roof.
