An £11.6m history centre in Chippenham has been officially opened by HRH the Princess Royal.
Princess Anne was the guest of honour at Friday's ceremony at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Chippenham.
She saw some of the conservation work including restoration of maps, ancient remains, documents and the centre's extensive collection of records.
The Princess then cut a cake to celebrate the formal opening before unveiling a commemorative plaque.
The building is one of nine to be shortlisted for the Civic Building of the Year Competition 2008.
More than 10,000 people have visited the centre since it opened to the public at the end of October 2007.
