Six arrested over father's murder

Adam Chadwick and daughter Ruby

Six people have been arrested by police investigating the murder of a young Leeds father in what was believed to be a case of mistaken identity.

Adam Chadwick, 20, was shot when three masked men and a woman burst into his sister Gemma's home last June.

On Tuesday, police arrested three men aged 23, 27 and 28 and a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.

A 32-year-old man was held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. A 44-year-old woman was held over drugs offences.

All six people, who were arrested in a series of raids across Leeds on Tuesday, have been released on police bail until a later date.

West Yorkshire Police said the arrests were made by officers acting on information from the public after recent publicity, including an appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme.

Ford Focus

Mr Chadwick, who had a three-year-old daughter, died in hospital on 29 June 2008, two days after suffering a single bullet wound to the head.

Detectives maintain they believe his death was a case of mistaken identity.

On the night of the shooting, a woman had called at the house, and others in the area, asking for "Michelle". Detectives believe this is connected to the murder.

Police also want information about a blue Ford Focus found in the Chapeltown area, close to the site of the former Hayfield pub.

The vehicle, thought to be involved in the shooting, was stolen from the Oatland Heights area of Little London on 11 June.

Det Supt Steve Payne, who is leading the investigation, said: "While we have made a number of arrests over recent days this inquiry is still ongoing and I would continue to urge anyone with information over Adam's death to contact myself or the inquiry team.

"Information from the public has led to these arrests and I personally assure anyone contacting us that their identity will remain strictly anonymous."

The Crimestoppers charity is offering a £5,000 reward to encourage anyone with information about the case to come forward.
