Renewed murder appeal 14 years on

Lindsay Jo Rimer

Detectives have renewed their appeal for help in solving the murder of a teenage girl from West Yorkshire who disappeared 14 years ago.

Lindsay Jo Rimer, 13, left her Hebden Bridge home on 7 November 1994 to buy cornflakes from the supermarket.

Her body was found five months later in the Rochdale Canal.

Detectives have spoken to more than 5,000 people and taken several hundred statements during the investigation but her killer has never been found.

"With the passage of time, someone who was unable to come forward and speak to us more than a decade ago might be in a position to do so now."
Det Supt Colin Prime

Det Supt Colin Prime, of West Yorkshire Police's Major Investigation Review Team, said: "I firmly believe that someone, somewhere could hold vital information that would lead us to the killer.

"Although 14 years has passed since Lindsay's disappearance, we continue to seek the vital pieces of information that will bring closure to the investigation and for Lindsay's family."

Calder High School pupil Lindsay lived with her parents in Cambridge Street.

She left home to visit the Spar Supermarket in Crown Street and called in at the Trades Club in Holme Street along the way.

CCTV footage shows her paying for the cornflakes at 2222 GMT.

Mr Prime added: "It may be that someone has harboured a suspicion for 14 years. With the passage of time, someone who was unable to come forward and speak to us more than a decade ago might be in a position to do so now.

"I urge them to contact us in confidence."
