Parents plea over son's shooting

Adam Chadwick and daughter Ruby

The parents of a man who was gunned down in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity have made an emotional appeal to catch his killer.

Adam Chadwick, 20, was shot when three masked men and a woman burst into his sister's home in Clifton Mount, Harehills in Leeds, on 27 June.

His mother Jackie Chadwick said: "We just want justice for Adam. We just don't understand why he was killed."

He died in hospital two days later from a single bullet wound to the head.

Mr Chadwick leaves a daughter Ruby, aged three.

On the night on the shooting a woman had knocked at the house, and others in the area asking for "Michelle", which detectives believe is linked to the murder investigation.

But the woman and the masked men, who wore camouflage clothing, have yet to be traced.

"We saw Adam lying there...doctors said he wasn't going to survive"

Mrs Chadwick told BBC News: "We have to talk about it because we need these people caught, we can't let them walk the streets.

"We just want anyone who knows anything to come forward. We know people may be frightened to give information but we need justice for Ruby too who has lost her daddy."

Detectives maintain they believe the young father's death was a case of mistaken identity.

His father Martin Chadwick described his son as a cheeky chap who "didn't have a bad bone in his body".

The couple recalled how they received a call from their distraught daughter Gemma, moments after the shooting, and arrived at her house to find Mr Chadwick injured.

"We got there before the police. We saw Adam lying there, then at the hospital that night the doctors said he wasn't going to survive," said Martin Chadwick.

Meanwhile, police want information about a blue Ford Focus found in the Chapeltown area, close to the site of the former Hayfield pub.

The vehicle, thought to be involved in the shooting, was stolen from the Oatland Heights area of Little London on 11 June.
