Thousands of revellers have joined a colourful procession of floats and street dancers as the Leeds West Indian Carnival gets under way in the city.
The event is now in its 41st year and dancers and parade troupes had gathered at Potternewton Park before the street parade began.
Organisers said there were about 25 musical and dance troupes taking part in the event.
When the procession finished there were live calypso acts.
Co-founder of the event, Ian Charles, said he was proud of the four decades at the helm of an event which has grown hugely since its inception.
"Every year there's always something for everyone.
"We never really know what to expect.
"But, by the end of it, again, it will have been well done and everyone will go home having enjoyed a successful event."
