Man held after woman found dead

A man has been arrested in West Yorkshire following the discovery of an elderly woman's body.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman, in her 70s, was found dead at a house in the Altofts area of Wakefield at 1820 GMT on Monday.

Officers attended the scene and arrested a man in his 40s in connection with the incident.

He was being held in custody on Tuesday pending further inquiries. Post-mortem tests were due to be carried out later.
