Cyclist badly hurt in collision

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a collision with a car on a road in Wakefield.

The 51-year-old man, from the Wakefield area, was taken to hospital after the collision with a Peugeot 206 car travelling in the opposite direction.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the collision happened on Ings Road at its junction with Denby Dale Road at about 2000 GMT on Thursday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
