Woman, 84, hurt in street mugging

An 84-year-old woman needed hospital treatment after being attacked by a robber in Leeds.

A passer-by found the woman lying on the ground in Cheltenham Street, Wortley, just before midnight on Friday, West Yorkshire Police said.

The victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where she received treatment for head and arm injuries.

Police said she had been knocked to the ground and her handbag stolen about half an hour before she was found.

They are conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area and urged anyone with information about the robbery to contact police.
