Woman lied about 'alleyway rape'

Police tape A woman who said she had been raped after being followed into an alleyway by three men in Leeds has now told police she lied.

The 37-year-old had claimed she was grabbed as she walked along Meadow Road in Garforth on Tuesday evening.

She said one of the men hit her head against the wall, before raping her.

Forensic teams scoured the scene and police appealed for information about the men, but now the woman has told officers the attack had not happened.

A spokeswoman for the West Yorkshire force said: "Police identified a number of inconsistencies with the woman's account of the incident and spoke with her again.

"The woman has now confirmed that the incident did not happen."
