Man shot 'after answering door'

A man has been shot in the stomach on the doorstep of a house in Birmingham.

The 39-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after the incident in Lenchs Green, Edgbaston, at about 0130 BST, police said.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Police said the motive was currently unclear.

"It appears that the victim sustained the gunshot wound when he answered a knock on the door," a West Midlands Police spokeswoman said.

The man suffered a single bullet wound to his stomach.

"Initial reports suggest that a group of up to four men was seen running from the scene in the direction of Princess Road," the spokeswoman added.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.
