Brown supports New Street rebuild

Gordon Brown has pledged his support for the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street railway station.

The prime minister visited the city on Friday as part of a three-day tour of England and Wales.

Mr Brown said there was "a very strong case" for the station's redevelopment, adding: "I want to make that happen."

He said the government was investing heavily in the West Midlands region and praised the area for its determination and "strong business spirit".
