Medical notes sent to a stranger

Medical notes of three Dudley patients have been sent in error to a stranger in the town prompting concerns over a government agency's data security.

Rod Phillips, 59, was told he was ineligible for a disability pension and took the matter to tribunal.

He said he was alarmed to find three people's medical notes enclosed with his own in a letter from the tribunal.

The Tribunals Service said it took data security "very seriously" and was investigating as a matter of urgency.

The medical details of Edna Davies, 89, from Dudley, are all now known to Mr Phillips after her details dropped through his letterbox on Saturday.

She said she was very upset that her personal information had been shared with a stranger and told BBC Midlands Today correspondent Michele Paduano: "It's my business."

The Tribunals Service apologised and said it was looking into the matter to ensure the breach did not happen again.
