Firefighter dies on night shift

A fireman has died from a suspected heart attack while he was attending a call-out to a car on its side in the West Midlands.

Brian Dean, 49, who worked for the West Midlands Fire Service, had been called out to an overturned vehicle while on the night shift on Wednesday.

Colleagues on the Blue Watch at Bloxwich Fire station tried to resuscitate him using a defibrillator.

Mr Dean was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital but later died there.

Acting chief fire officer Vij Randeniya said: "This sad loss has shocked us all.

"The fire service is like an extended family and our hearts and prayers go to his wife, family and loved ones as well as to his friends and colleagues."
