'Walk of Fame' honour for actress

Julie Walters

Three-time Bafta award winner Julie Walters is to be honoured by her home city on its 'Walk of Fame'.

A star in her name will be engraved in Birmingham's Broad Street alongside the likes of comedian Jasper Carrott and rock star Ozzy Osbourne.

It is an honour awarded by the Business Improvement District to celebrate entertainers with strong local links.

The 58-year-old actress was born in Smethwick and trained as a nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

She left nursing to pursue an English and drama course at Manchester Polytechnic against her parents' wishes.

The Calendar Girls star was nominated for an Oscar in the film version of Educating Rita with co-star Michael Caine in 1983.
