Six charged over fatal road crash

A driver has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a man who was hit by a car in Wolverhampton.

Stainton Barrett, 59, died in the accident in Banstead Close, All Saints, during the early hours of Saturday.

Anthony Benson, 23, of Wolverhampton, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was remanded in custody by city magistrates.

He and five other men are also charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

One of the five men was granted conditional bail while the other four, who have also been charged with affray, were remanded in custody.

Mr Benson, of Belle Vue Street, Woodcross, and the other men are due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 23 December.
