Boy, 5, seriously hurt in crash

A five-year-old boy suffered head injuries when he was hit by a car in the West Midlands.

He also sustained fractures to his pelvis and right leg when he was hit by a Volvo while crossing Oldbury Road, Smethwick, at 1050 BST on Sunday.

The boy is being treated in hospital. "His injuries, while serious, are not thought to be life threatening," said a spokesman for West Midlands Police.

The 63-year-old driver was uninjured. Police have appealed for witnesses.
