A three-year-old boy has died in hospital after being found floating in a garden pond in Birmingham.

The toddler was found on Saturday evening in the garden of a house in Anderton Park Road, Moseley, an hour after he was reported missing.

Police officers administered CPR to the child at the scene before he was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital, where he died just before midnight.

The boy was visiting relatives when he went missing, neighbours said.

'Tragic accident'

Police were called at 1626 BST after the boy went missing from an address in Coppice Road, Moseley.

The owners of the property on Coppice Road did not want to comment.

A 67-year-old neighbour said he understood the boy had been playing with his cousins when he disappeared.

"The children were playing when he apparently got lost.

"He does not live on this street - he was visiting the house with his parents. He must have got through the gardens."

A police spokesman said: "West Midlands Police sends its sincere condolences to his family.

"It was a tragic accident."
