Thick smoke across city from fire

Nearly 200 tonnes of rubbish is on fire in Birmingham, causing thick plumes of smoke to drift across the city.

Crews were called to the blaze on Montague Street in the Bordesley Green area of the city at about 1945 BST, West Midlands Fire Service said.

A spokesman said timber and domestic waste had caught fire but the cause is not believed to be suspicious.

Fifteen fire engines were called to the scene with crews from Aston, Highgate, Bournbrook, Ladywood and Handsworth.
