Dumped stolen cash taken in raid

People scramble for the cash, pictures courtesy of Tony Ronan Traffic came to a standstill in Birmingham when robbers dumped thousands of pounds out of their getaway car on to the street.

They were driving along Hagley Road, Quinton, when they threw out a cashbox taken in an armed robbery at a shop in Manor Lane, Halesowen minutes earlier.

People rushed to pick up the notes but discovered they were stained with a red dye emitted during the robbery.

Most have been handed in and the box is being examined by Securicor.

West Midlands Police said they were called to reports that three men in balaclavas - one armed with what was believed to be a handgun - entered the store at 1104 GMT on Monday.

Security staff were threatened and the men made off with cashboxes. No shots were fired or anyone injured.

Police said the money was then thrown out of a vehicle, believed to be a black Ford Focus, on nearby Hagley Road at 1110 GMT.

Officers are tracing the owner of the car, which they believe holds vital clues to the incident.
