A series of events to mark the 150th anniversary of composer Sir Edward Elgar's birth will be held during 2007.
Famed for the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, Elgar was born in 1857 in Lower Broadheath near Malvern, Worcs.
He had strong links with Birmingham where a 150th anniversary concert will be held at the Symphony Hall in April.
It will feature The Dream of Gerontius which will also be performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) in another concert in June.
The composer helped found the CBSO and the orchestra will be starting its Elgar celebrations in March with a performance of his cello concerto.
Elgar wrote the Pomp And Circumstances Marches in 1901.
The first march, the tune which would become famous as Land of Hope and Glory, originally had no lyrics - they were added later by Arthur C Benson.
The sixth and final section of the marches, which were finished by Elgar expert Anthony Payne, was first played at a Proms concert in 2006.
Elgar died in 1934, the same year that saw the death of two other great English composers - Gustav Holst and Frederick Delius.
