One killed and two hurt in blaze

A man has died and two others have been seriously injured after a fire broke out at a three-storey house in the Aston area of Birmingham.

More than 25 firefighters were called to Birchfield Road, when a fire swept through three rooms of the home on Thursday.

A 54-year-old man suffered extensive injuries and died later in hospital.

Two other men, a 51-year-old and a 48-year-old, were rescued from the house and taken to hospital.

The 51-year-old is being treated for serious hand and facial injuries, and is in a stable condition.

The 48-year-old was treated for the effects of breathing in smoke and has since been released from hospital.

It is not known what caused the fire and West Midlands Police are seeking witnesses.
