Two in court over fire death girl

Alisha Begum Two men charged with the murder of a six-year-old girl who died in a house fire have been remanded into custody.

Alisha Begum died when she was trapped in a house in Bayswater Road, Perry Barr, Birmingham, at night on 10 March.

Her mother and four siblings managed to jump to safety from a first floor window. They suffered minor injuries.

Daryll Tuzzio, 18, of Perry Barr, and Hussain Ahmed, 26, of Harborne, were also charged with nine attempted murders before Birmingham magistrates.

Life support ended

The two men are due at Birmingham Crown Court on 12 April.

Family members jumped to safety or climbed down a ladder put at the back of the house but Alisha, who was the youngest of 12 children in the family, was rescued by firefighters.

She had burns of between 95% and 100% and was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital where her life support machine was switched off the following day.

Alisha's mother Renu and four other children were taken to hospital suffering minor burns and the effects of smoke inhalation.
