Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to an annual kite festival being staged on Wearside.

Kite flyers from across the world are taking part in the Sunderland International Friendship Festival.

The two-day event, at the Northern Area Playing Fields in Washington, also features street theatre and live music.

Kite flyers from as far away as India, the US, Canada and Australia are taking part in the event, which is organised by Sunderland City Council.
