Man charged with ricin possession

A 41-year-old County Durham man has appeared in court charged with possessing the poison ricin.

Ian Davison, of Myrtle Grove in Burnopfield, was arrested last week by anti-terrorist police investigating suspected white supremacists.

The former pub DJ was charged with offences under the Terrorism Act.

He appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded to appear at the Old Bailey for a preliminary hearing on 19 June.

His son Nicky, 18, has already appeared in court charged with possessing information to commit a terrorist act.

The unemployed teenager of Grampian Way, Annfield Plain, was arrested with his father on 2 June.

Nicky Davison appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he was bailed until 22 June and ordered to wear an electronic tag.

The wording of the charge against Ian Davison is that he "acquired a quantity of the toxin ricin, explosives and other manuals and disseminated them to others and encouraged others to commit acts of terrorism".

He is also accused of having a manual on making firearms and explosives.
