Second arrest over armed robbery

House cordoned off at Moorside

A second man has been arrested over a post office raid, which sparked an armed stand-off in County Durham.

Police cordoned off a property, in Moorside near Consett, after reports two robbers were hiding inside. They later found the property to be empty.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in the garden, on Thornfield Road, and a 29-year-old man was later held in Stanley, early on Friday.

Two armed raiders had earlier burst into Consett post office.

A small amount of cash was taken during the robbery at 1430 BST.

Staff reported that the masked raiders had been armed with a handgun.

Two further people, a man and woman, questioned by police over the incident have now been released.
