Pedestrian killed in coach crash

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a coach on one of the North East's busiest roads.

The 38-year-old man was on the A194, near its junction with the A1M at Washington, when he was struck by the 49-seater vehicle.

No-one else was injured in the crash, which happened on the north-bound carriageway early on Saturday.

Northumbria Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them.
