Woman, 86, killed as car reverses

An elderly pedestrian died when she was struck by a car reversing out of a driveway in County Durham.

Margaret Brooking was walking along Tanmeads in Kimblesworth, close to Chester-le-Street, when she was hit and pulled under the car's wheels.

The 86-year-old, from nearby Nettlesworth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car was being driven by a 51-year-old woman from Sacriston. Police are appealing for witnesses.
