Two people have been arrested after more than 60 trees were illegally felled in Cramlington, Northumberland.
The trees were chopped down between 28 June and 12 July in woodland beside the sewage works in East Hartford.
The estimated cost of the damage is about £15,000, said a spokesman for Northumbria Police.
A man, aged 27, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Officers have appealed for anyone who saw trees being felled in the area between late June and mid-July to come forward.
