City pool gets £1m refurbishment

A swimming pool on Tyneside is to get a new health and fitness suite as part of a £1m refurbishment.

The money will also be spent on upgrading the showers and changing areas at Elswick Pool, in Newcastle.

The grant will also be spent upgrading disabled access and providing a study room for school children.

Newcastle City Council has approved the project, which is being funded by the New Deal for Communities and the Arts and Culture Trust.
