Man dies in three vehicle-crash

A man has died in a three-vehicle crash in Gateshead.

The 70-year-old was driving a Citroen which was in collision with a Renault Megane and a van on Kingsway, in Sunniside, on Friday afternoon.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The road was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene. Northumbria Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
