Knife raider threatens shop staff

Shop staff were threatened by a knife-wielding teenager who demanded cash in a raid on a Tyneside newsagent.

The youth threatened staff at the Fielding Court Shop in South Shields before stealing cash on Wednesday.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the masked robber was loitering outside Chisholm bookmakers talking to people before the raid.

He ordered staff to hand over money and made off with notes and coins. No-one was injured during the incident.

Police described the robber as being white, thin, aged between 16 and 18 and spoke with a local accent.
