A man has been arrested on suspicion of money laundering following a joint operation between Northumbria Police and HM Revenue and Customs.

A police spokesman said officers stopped a van on West Road, Newcastle, on Monday, following a tip off.

An amount of money was recovered from the van, he said.

A 45-year-old man from the Wigan area was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
