Youth arrested after bridge climb

A teenager has been arrested after climbing the Tyne bridge between Newcastle and Gateshead.

The 16-year-old, from the Felling area, got stuck high up the bridge and police and the fire service were called out to the incident on Tuesday night.

He was unable to get down by himself and fire officers had to bring him to safety, closing the bridge to traffic for 20 minutes.

Police said he was uninjured and was arrested for causing a public nuisance.
