Princess Royal to open £12m pool

The Princess Royal will officially open Durham City's new swimming pool.

More than 8,000 swimmers visited the £12m Freeman's Quay Pool during its first week in July. It replaced the old pool at Old Elvet.

The facility boasts an eight lane 25m pool with floating floor. It also has a four-court sports hall, a dance studio with mirrored walls and a cafe.

Sport England provided £250,000 in funding towards the development. The royal opening will be on 26 September.
