Member of public in boat rescue

A 27-year-old man who fell into the River Tyne was rescued by a man with his own boat.

The emergency services were called at 0700 BST on Sunday after reports that a man was in the water near to St Peter's Basin in Newcastle.

But when crews arrived they found he had already been rescued by Brian Murphy, 39, of St Peter's Marina.

Mr Murphy had heard shouts for help and got out his own boat to pull the victim from the water.
