Arrests follow police car crash

Two people have been arrested after a stolen car collided with a marked police vehicle on South Tyneside.

Police spotted a Nissan Micra, earlier reported stolen, on Whiteleas Way in South Shields on Thursday morning.

The driver failed to stop when asked to do so, and soon afterwards the collision took place.

The vehicle drove off but was brought to a halt on New Street. A man, 20, and a 16-year-old youth were arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

No-one was injured in the incident.
