Boys arrested over blaze in barn

Two boys have been arrested over a large barn fire near Newcastle.

Up to 50 firefighters were called to Morley Hill Farm in Hazlerigg after an off-duty police officer spotted flames on Thursday night.

The barn, which contained 20 tonnes of fertilizer and machinery, was severely damaged. Crews led a heard of cows out of the building to safety.

A police spokesman said two boys, aged 11 and 12, had been arrested on suspicion of arson.
